I try to write a little bit about most of the things I enjoy on the blog, but one topic has been missing until now: running. Now that race season has started in Central Florida, I’ll try to include some race recaps on the blog and, at some point, I’ll try to share a little bit more about my fitness journey for those who may be curious. But for now, on to the recap…
Miracle Miles 15K
Miracle Miles was my first 15K. I ran the corresponding 5K a couple years ago, but the 15K (9.3 miles) is a personal distance record and, hopefully, a stepping stone to build up my endurance (and confidence) to run my first half-marathon (13.1 miles) in December.
It’s Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week 2011, and behind that somewhat lengthy name is a really great cause that’s near and dear to my heart: finding homes for all the deserving cats and dogs who need them.
You’d like to think that every cat or dog awaiting adoption had an equal shot at finding its way to a “forever home,” but sadly, that’s nowhere close to reality. Black pets, senior pets, blind or deaf pets, banned or restricted breeds, FIV+ cats … the list goes on. All of these pets are less likely to be adopted and more likely to have an extended stay in the shelter or rescue. Petfinder.com created this week to generate awareness of this challenge and put the spotlight on these underdogs (and under-cats!) awaiting adoption.
For all my readers who live in Central Florida (or visit here often), I’d like to alert you to two outstanding events going on here in September: Magical Dining Month and Miracle Miles.
My husband and I had a wonderful meal at Winter Park gastropub The Ravenous Pig, and it was too delicious not to share. Follow along with us while I give you a peek at the treats we enjoyed.
Well it finally happened … ‘Lil Buddy learned to crawl and to pull up and cruise, and life around the house suddenly got a whole lot more interesting.
