Friday Free-For-All: Magic and Miracles

16 Sep

For all my readers who live in Central Florida (or visit here often), I’d like to alert you to two outstanding events going on here in September: Magical Dining Month and Miracle Miles.

Magical Dining Month

First, the entire month of September is Orlando’s Magical Dining Month. More than 60 great local restaurants are offering a three-course prix fixe menu for only $30 per person. Since most of the participating restaurants are fine dining or casual gourmet, this is an excellent deal and a great opportunity to try some new places you may not have visited otherwise. It’s also a great cause as $1 from each meal will be donated to Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida.

My husband and I have enjoyed this program for several years now and
we’ve discovered some new favorites in the process. I promise to post some reviews of this year’s “magical” meals.

Miracle Miles

Also happening this month is the 13th annual Miracle Miles, a great running and walking event for a great cause. The event takes place in Orlando’s Downtown South neighborhood and features a chip-timed 15K and 5K, as well as a kids’ fun run and a symbolic, family friendly walk. 15Ks aren’t all that easy to find in this area, so runners won’t want to miss this unique distance, which happens to also be great preparation for the winter marathon and half-marathon season.

Most of all, the proceeds go to a really great cause, the Alexander Center for Neonatology at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. Check out the event’s Facebook page and read some of the stories posted by families the hospital has helped. The miracles these doctors do for tiny babies will seriously give you goosebumps!

So, readers, what do you have planned for September? If you’re participating in Magical Dining Month, which restaurants do you plan to visit? If you’re participating in Miracle Miles, are you running the 5K or the 15K?
