The Daily City’s Orlando Food Truck Bazaar keeps growing and growing. This month’s gathering of gourmet food trucks was rumored to be the biggest one yet, and it did not disappoint. For every truck we had a chance to try, I probably added three more trucks to my “to-eat list.” Even the chilly weather–the coolest evening of the season so far–didn’t stop people from coming out and enjoying the feast on the go.
We headed downtown on a Sunday a few months ago to visit the Lake Eola farmer’s market, and we decided to stop by Prickly Pear for their Sunday Brunch. Prickly Pear is owned by the same group as local favorites Funky Monkey and Bananas Diner, so it’s been on our “to try” list for a while. They offer a different menu for Sunday Brunch, so be aware that if you visit for dinner you’ll see a different menu than what we sampled.
We visited the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the Thanksgiving holiday and had a great time reuniting and celebrating with family and friends. And, of course, like any time we get together with our loved ones, this trip involved lots of good food. Honestly, the best food we ate were all the home-cooked goodies we enjoyed at home with family, but we did have a few meals out worth noting, so here are some brief reviews.
Orlando’s Magical Dining Month is a great opportunity to try new restaurants or old favorites with a very affordable prix fixe menu, all while raising money for Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida. The event was held in September, and we had a chance to try two restaurants this year. We sampled one new location, K Wine Bar in Orlando’s College Park neighborhood, and one old favorite, Funky Monkey Wine Company at Pointe Orlando in the International Drive area.
We got our first taste of Central Florida’s growing mobile food scene a few weeks ago at the Daily City’s Orlando Food Truck Bazaar. It turned out to be a great meal, and a great time, so we’ll definitely be back in the future.
We’ve been hearing the buzz about the food truck community for a while but hadn’t had a chance to track down most of the popular trucks for ourselves. That’s where the Bazaar comes in. It’s a convenient way to sample several trucks at once to get to know what’s out there and to choose your favorites. We ate at about half a dozen trucks at the event and still barely scratched the surface of what was there.

In this second installment of my vacation review, I’d like to talk about one of my favorite subjects–food!
Since we were staying in a house with a full kitchen, home-cooking was a big highlight of our stay. We had a hot breakfast every morning with grits or biscuits, eggs, bacon or sausage and more. Heaven! We ate well at dinner too, enjoying everything from homemade gumbo and fried shrimp to fresh-grilled steaks and corn on the cob, to homemade spaghetti sauce.
Despite the amazing food at home, we did venture out for a couple of meals. Here are our reviews of the places we tried.
